Today, we found out how to put together a backpack for a hiking trip.
"You're a Ziploc bag." -Alese
We first listened to a reading of "Wild", by Cheryl Strayed, and got the chance to listen to her talk about her experience on the Pacific Trail. I personally don't have a wish to take that far of a hike, but it was pretty interesting to hear her talk about. We also saw a short video that showed what she put into her backpack, Monster. There was a lot of stuff in there, but she did over-pack since it was her first time. We then got the chance to put together our own hiking bag for a 10-15 day hike at a location of our choice. We were allowed to put anything that we found necessary in the bag. My partner and I made our location Yosemite. It was a 10 day, 50 mile hike. We packed things like water bottles, dehydrated food, waterproof matches, extra clothes, and marshmallows. The total weight of our bag was only about 23 pounds, which was a lot lighter than some of the other ones people had.
